Abstract
The Urdu Short Story writing was dominated by the romantic views in the beginning. The romantic fiction appeals the aesthetic sense of the reader but it's beyond reality. The credit of bringing the Urdu Short Story writing to realism goes to Prem Chand. The Progressive Writers' Movement made the financial problems of the masses as a theme of their fiction. The Progressive Writers have written extensively on issues like poverty, lower way of life, social division and criminal mindedness. The prominent fiction writers of the Progressive Writers' Movement are Sajjad Zaheer, Ahmad Ali, Rasheed Jehan, Mahmood ul Zafar, Akhtar Hussain Raipuri, Krishn Chandra, Saadat Hassan Manto, Aziz Ahmad, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, Shaukat Siddiqui and Rajendra Singh Bedi. The modern day fiction also effectively represents the financial problems of the society. Dr Rasheed Amjad, Dr Nasir Abbas Nayyar, Asghar Nadeem Syed, Asad Mohammed Khan, Mirza Athar Baig, Mohammed Asim Butt, Mubeen Mirza, Tahira Iqbal, Amjad Tufail and Sami Ahuja have artistically made social and financial issues of today's human as part of literature through their fiction.
